And is that you kissing a horse? WTF? Haha. WEIRD
Just thought I'd drop by to say "hi." Hope that the first week of school is going fine aside from you passing out. Get your lunch money stolen yet? Get beat up by the school bully? Get any detention? Hehe. OMG I totally forgot to tell you about this one thing we did while in Oakland. We went to the Sake Factory. Yes, sake. I am now addicted to sake. I would highly recommend going there if you're a raging alcoholic like I am. (OK, I'm not that bad, but I do like to drink.)
This was on the first day that we were in Oakland and as we head home from visiting Berkeley, my aunt's all like, "Hey, you guys want to go tour the Sake Factory?" I'm like, "what in the world is a Sake Factory?" and she explains to me how it's where they make sake and all that and how they let you tour the factory. At this point, I don't even know what sake is, but I'm quickly giddy with excitement when she tells me that it's Japanese wine.
Anyways, we get there and tour the place; it is amazing!!! The dude who was there made us watch a 10-minute video about the history of sake, and then we headed over to this bar they have installed there (which was very Japanesey) and he proceeded to put little shotglasses in front of each of us (my aunt, my sister, my brother-in-law and me) and then he started pouring us samples of each kind of sake (18 in total I believe). By the end, I was starting to get kind of drunk. Sake has a real nice dry taste and very flavorful, although there are one or two kinds of sake that are sweet in taste. Anyways, I ended up buying four different bottles from this guy, while my sister bought six!!!
IT WAS AMAZING. I love Oakland. <3 [QUOTE=hot_corner_gurl]
Your family took days off to give youa tour? Lucky. I know whenever I visit my family in Hawaii or LA or back east that they just let me wander around by myself. Which explains my new-found keen sense of direction.
Anyways, what was your fave part? Did you go shopping at Union Square? (wait a second, never mind ignore that last question. unless you did, then I want to hear all about it) And OMG did you check out all the arcades and stuff at Pier 39? Did you go out to lunch/dinner there? Did you see the Opera House? Or the Metreon? Or City Hall? You said you were in Berkley...did you see the University? (sorry I'm bombarding you with all these questions. curious minds want to know) Yes I've been to the Slanted Door before (hey that rhymes!). Like you said, a very nice restaurant. Did you pass by a restaurant named Faz? My roomie is the assistand head chef there, while I'm a hostess (along with my two other jobs). You should definately come back again.

We did pass by Union Square really quick for some pictures and we walked down to Virgin Megastore because my aunt needed to get herself a CD. I hung out at the Apple Store with my brother-in-law. But I do remember going to this shopping center which had escalators going up in circles, it was cool.
Opera House, Metreon and City Hall I did not see this time but I do remember them from the last time I was there. Cool places. We did tour UC Berkeley though, people seem very relaxed these days.
I did not go to Faz, but I did eat at another restaurant that was really good after getting off the ferry from Angel Island: this restaurant in Oakland called Le Cheval. Awesome food, although not on the same level as The Slanted Door, but still amazing. Ha, my aunt and uncle actually took 3 days off work to accompany me and my sister (and her husband) around town. And yeah, I did go to Little Italy, we ate at a restaurant called Pinocchio's which was on Columbus Street and it was very good, I remember I had the linguini al pesto. So yummy. We also passed by Chinatown real fast because we had to walk down to the wharf since our cable car broke down, haha. As far as Golden Gate, we drove through there as well but going north towards Sausalito so that way we were able to avoid the toll.
If you ever get the opportunity, you should try the Slanted Door, a restaurant at the Marketplace on Embarcadero but I'm sure you're aware of that already!!! The food is oh so unbelievably good despite this being my third time there. It was good, really good!!!
I'm totally going back next year. Maybe. NO WAY! Why didn't you tell me you were in town? I coulda given you a private tour of the city! Haha jk.
Hahaha yeah BART is always a little difficult for first-timers. I had the same problem, but I didn't have to jump over gates. I had someone else do that for me.
Sounds like you had a great time. You saw most of the sights too. Missed out on Chinatown and Little Italy though. Those are pretty cool. Same with the Embarcadero (that's right near my place!). Did you see ATT Park? Or drive across the Golden Gate Bridge? (I don't blame you if you didn't, the tolls cost just as much as a gallon of gas these days) I've been living here in the Bay Area for the past five or so years and I've still never been to Alcatraz. Sad, I know. Hahaha yeah the weather has been kinda crummy here. You know how the saying goes though. "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". I'm back from a trip to San Diego and Oakland/SF!!!
I took the BART for the first time ever yesterday and it was pretty cool. It was kind of confusing at first though because I didn't know that I had to keep my ticket so that I could exit, so I ended up just jumping over the gates when I got off at Lake Merritt haha.
Anyways, I love the Bay Area. It's good times. I went just about everywhere including Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and the seal lions!, Alcatraz, Angel Island, Crissy Field, Telegraph Ave in Berkeley with the potheads and of course we stopped by the Castro to see the gay village. I would love to live here although I have to say that it was kind of windy and cold. Omigod! You like Hannah Montana?! :alien: | Recent Actions in my Network Yesterday
