Nationals claimed outfielder Kenny Kelly off waivers from the Reds.
GM Jim Bowden just can't resist an outfielder with tools. Kelly is a worse player than J.J. Davis, probably Brandon Watson, too. The Nationals will carry him for now, but he should head back to the minors after Tony Blanco and Henry Mateo come off the DL.

I'm sure the Reds fans here can give a detailed view on Kenny Kelly, the good and the bad. Having him as a 5th OF, from what I've heard, isn't the worst thing. He won't get much PT with Church/Wilson/Guillen/Wilkerson jamming up three spots, but it's always nice to have someone, especially after dealing a guy like Davis (IIRC) to Colorado.

Kelly is an athlete but hes a 4th OF at best. Hes nothing special.

Not a big loss for the Reds nor a big gain for the Nationals. He is a player that plays hard; he's scrappy and you can't put a price on that.

I think Kelly could become a good player off the bench. He had a .326 AVG. in 61 games for the AAA Louisville bats this season. He may be a decent pick up, but for now is no loss to the deep Reds OF. I say good job by Bowden though.
