It always figured that Reese would come back after his surprising retirement in March 2006, but now that he's missed 2 1/3 seasons, it's going to be awfully difficult for him to reestablish himself in the majors. The Nats picked him up because Pete Orr went on the DL at Triple-A Columbus.

With Pokey this long out of the game, who knows how much his defensive capabilities and range have diminished, but I suppose this is a move that might spell the end for either Christian Guzman or Felipe Lopez, either or both whom could be traded to the highest bidder in the next month or two.

Wow. The last time I heard Gookie Dawkins' name mentioned was the day when the Mets played the Reds. Pokey and Gookie played the middle infield, and the Mets' base coaches were Cookie Rojas and Mookie Wilson. Mookie, Cookie, Gookie, and Pokey. Sounds like the new Pac-Man villains.
