According to the Toronto Star, David Eckstein and Gregg Zaun "were both officially declared backups" Sunday and "could become trade bait."
John McDonald and Marco Scutaro have been splitting time at shortstop recently, while Rod Barajas gets most of the starts behind the plate.
Eckstein can be shopped as a second baseman or still a SS. He still has a good OBP and is one of the toughest to strike out in the league. Zaun could be traded to the Marlins or possibly the Yankees with Posada's future in doubt.

Giants > Padres

Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.70 career ERA, but has won just 29 of his 95 starts.

I'd expect a deal with a big salaried team (Sox for Eckstein, Yankees/White Sox for Burnett) for a lower grade prospect... Burnett won't qualify for FA A status so no reason to keep him

The Mets would be interested in either one, or possibly even both of the above two(Burnett and Eckstein). We probably don't have enough to offer though...considering Minaya is not going to deal Fernando Martinez.
