About to get daylight in Rome, I'm sure we'll be seeing tons of people heading down there soon. Been watching since about 1 PM. They even had a report around 2 PM reporting the pope had died. The report was a misunderstanding, for the pope's heart and brain were still working. Only a matter of hours....

The Vatican lists St. Peter, the first pope, as serving from A.D. 30 to 64 or 67 — a total of either 34 or 37 years. Second on the longevity list is Pius IX, who served 31 years, seven months and 17 days until July 20, 1903.
It's about 6 AM in Rome, the Sun should be up soon. You're right, and you had to figure it was only a matter of time. I'm an admirer of Pope John Paul II's work.
