Prior to Wednesday's game, Matthews was hitting .397 over a 17-game span, lifting his average from .240 to .274. He had seven homers over a 14-game span, and his 14 homers have matched a career high. Furthermore, Matthews has made several outstanding plays in center and showcased a strong arm.

Nix was the starter, but Matthews has said all the long he's wanted to start...just have to wait and see what happens next year I guess.
