Rogers may have time to play 2 Rangers pitcher's appeal hearing is set for July 21 By EVAN GRANT / The Dallas Morning News DETROIT – Kenny Rogers may make two starts for the Rangers before his suspension begins. Rangers owner Tom Hicks said Tuesday the club has been told by Major League Baseball officials the appeal hearing on Rogers' 20-game suspension for toppling two TV cameras and shoving one of the camera operators will be on the afternoon of July 21. Hicks did caution there was a possibility the date could be moved, however. MLB officials did not comment. "We just need to know when it will be for our own roster purposes," Hicks said. "We need to know how to set things up." During a "town hall" style meeting with fans, commissioner Bud Selig said the usual cause for the long delays in getting hearings scheduled is baseball's busy arbitrator schedule. If the hearing is on the 21st, Rogers could start either the second-half opener Thursday at Oakland or the second game Friday and again against New York on July 19 or 20. If the suspension is not reduced, Rogers would be out until Aug. 11, the opener of a four-game series at Yankee Stadium. Making his first start after the suspension at Yankee Stadium could further punish the Rangers and Rogers. He has not pitched well in New York. As a visitor, he is 1-5 there with a 9.42 ERA in nine career starts. His only win was in 1993.
