Rangers announced that general manager Jon Daniels has signed a one-year contract extension that runs through the 2009 season.
Daniels will be busy over the next month or so, with plenty of veteran parts to sell off before the trading deadline. His sticking around is good news for manager Ron Washington, who's already received a ton of criticism since being hired during the offseason.

Why? Plain and simple, why? This guy is one of the worst in the business. Look at where this team is now. You are not going to rebuild by trading guys like Lofton and Gagne. Should have gone with someone new and in no way is this Washington's fault.

Because he's only about 12 years old, so they want to give him another chance.

From the Rangers website:

"Jon and I have had numerous meetings in the past few weeks about where we are, what we need to do to improve, and how to take advantage of the great young players in our system," Hicks said. "I wanted Jon to know he has my confidence and I wanted to express that publicly so Jon can go about the business of building a baseball team. "

Alot of it I think is coming from the Owner.

I guess the guy shoud get a little extra time to try and put things together in Texas. This is only like his 2nd year as GM I think. So far his trading hasn't worked out very well though. Soriano for Wilkerson, Young/A-Gon for Peavy/Otsuka, then Danks for McCarthy. And wouldn't you know it, Danks is pitching better than McCarthy.

Daniels is only signed for a couple more years so if he can't do anything by '09, and especially if he keeps making bad trades, then get rid of him.
