    The assumption that the Rays could have let Crawford leave is based on what? The Greg Vaughn signing? The Rays before never really had to make business decisions on homegrown players because there weren't any until Crawford and Baldelli.

Because $10 million is a lot for this team and a bargain for some. It is tempting and there has been talk about it in the past.
