In light of the Mitchell Report, we've now learned that the reason the Ultimate Beane player, Jason Giambi, went from a high average hitter with modest power in the minor leagues to a big league power hitter was... steroids. Also, the difference between Lenny Dykstra and Billy Beane as hitters was... steroids.

I think many here do not understand (or as Roger might say mis-understand) moneyball. The moneyball way is not only the Oakland A's but yes the New York Yankees. Both teams value the same talent but the A's can't afford to throw their money around like the Yankees can. If Beane did have the ability to do that in Oakland then yes he would. OBP and SLG% are stats that Beane lives by offensive wise and if you take a look at the Yankees most of their hitters are proficient in those stats as well. MONEYball works. Sometimes people look too far into the book and miss the true idea. Take what you have and make the most out of it.
