Change The Trade Deadline Back!!!

Remember when the trading deadline was 11:59 on July 31st instead of it being 4pm?? Didn't that add more suspense to the trading deadline? I miss waking up and finding out my team made moves while I was sleeping. It was just like Christmas morning. Going back to midnight gives teams more time to work out deals and more phone calls being made. I could be alone but I liked it a lot better when midnight was the cutoff.

I think a lot of this has to do with making the trade deadline more marketable. 4 PM means ESPN could have deadline BBTN shows (which they do), before the 6 PM SportsCenter, and allows for full coverage of MOST moves (of course some slip in after the deadline officially due to medical clearances and such.) Also there is separation between the deadline and the majority of games so there could be discussion during those broadcasts. So in essence, I think they do it so the media can discuss the deadline on the 31st, right after it happens, instead of the next day which some might view as anti-climatic.

But I agree 100% with this. I personally would enjoy the deadline quite a bit more if we could potentially hear about the franchise making late moves at 10 PM/11 PM/etc as opposed to a time when many are at work or doing other things.
