Oh, and by the way, the Padres won 7-0 if you're interested.
I hate ESPN.

At least he didn't hit a home run. I am going to try to watch a lot of Giants games to see what he does.

I understand the hype behind his at bats, but if he doesn't hit a home run can't they just show one at bat and state that and cover the rest of the game?
And if he does hit a home run can't they just show the home run, mention how much is left, and cover the rest of the game?
It just chaps my ass that the Padres win a game on opening day 7-0 and ESPN covers the first RBI by Adrian Gonzalez, and then goes on to show everyone of Bonds' at bats, mentioning the final score like it's an afterthought.

That's the problem, it's mostly all about Bonds and his homeruns. I loved it when the Giants lost. How many people on this planet will actually consider him the "HR King" if he breaks the record? Besides Giants fans.

It shouldn't be about the HR king and how he mustered only a 72 hopper into shallow LF due to a huge shift. Otherwise he'd have been O-fer

Boo ****ing hoo!! ESPN sucks on so many levels such as Yanks/Red Sox 24-7 and the rest of the MLB is an afterthought. Bonds stealing a base is pretty amazing and unexpected you have to admit.
And Jay Dawg, you have no idea of what you are talking about in regards to RF.
2008 Giants > Padres
Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.

It is a good feat....but is it worth spending the entire time talking about, treating the final score like an afterthought?
Would you be defending the same organization you bash in the same post for their usual Yankee/Red Sox love affair if you weren't a Giants fan?

Because Bonds is the greatest player of his era, so whatever he does is worth mentioning it. Nothing against the Padres because its only the 1st game of the season, if it was the world series or a game 5 or 7 of the playoffs, most definetly ESPN would talk about the game.

no they shouldnt, really but what else can you expect? i hardly expect anything more out of them. Its pretty much Eastern Sports Programming Network with a few sprinklings of Barry for good measure in relations to baseball.

Padres win 5-3, Khalil, Gonzlaez, and Marcus Giles all go deep with clutch home runs, Trevor picks up save number 483....but I guarantee ESPN's recap of the game will consist of Bonds' HR, Bonds' great catch, a recap of where Bonds now stands behind Hank Aaron, and Trevor's last pitch to report the afterthought final score.
Of course, they'll only show that final pitch because Bonds was standing on deck and they'll recap by adding the tension of "will Bonds get another at bat?!"

I have no problems with them mentioning what Bonds does...in fact I expect them to. He's chasing a freaking prestigious record. Of course they should recap it.
What I have a problem with is them covering every single at bat in the recap of the game, pop outs, walks, whatever, and treating the actual game like it's an after thought.
If you feel the need to cover every single one of his at bats just allot more time to the freakin recap.
Or, better yet, cover the game, and then after you're done recapping the game THEN you devote another few minutes to how Barry performed.
A sports news station treating the outcome of a sports game as an after thought is just shameful.

Somehow, I don't believe you would have the same problem if this was late in the 1998 season and Mark McGwire was chasing Roger Maris' record and the Cardinals were playing the Milwaukee Brewers and ESPN treated the game as an afterthought.
