Richie Sexson is Ruining The Mariners

Richie Sexson's suckiness is having a large ripple effect throughout the Mariners. Last year, he batted .205 and slugged a mere .399. This year, he's compiled an incredible .091 batting average, including an impressive strikeout with the bases loaded. Here are the ways that his awful play is hurting the team:

1) He is ruining the production of the players before him. Raul Ibanez especially, who is already seeing multiple intentional walks just so pitchers can get to Sexson. He is also not going to see nearly the amount of good pitches than he saw last season.
2) By killing his team's batting, he is causing his pitchers more stress, which is not a good thing when you have a young star like Felix Hernandez who is trying not to become the next Mark Prior or Kerry Wood.
3) He is costing his team $12.5 million per year, and is signed through this year and next year.

In my opinion, Richie Sexson will be the SOLE reason the Mariners don't win that division this year, and possibly next year as well. Even if he hits 30 home runs, it's not nearly worth it. Ultimatum to the Mariners: get Richie Sexson off your team, or he will continue to wreak havoc on your franchise.

They would have been better off without him and Beltre, yes. They've been real hit and miss, and a lot of miss, with free agents lately. Remember they spent a ton on Weaver last year and that worked out wonderfully. They've got good pieces like Ichiro, Lopez, Betancourt, etc. but they've hindered themselves with poor big free agent signings.

You are correct. I saw he signed a 4-year deal in 2005, but i just did the math wrong, not counting the 2005 season. My bad. Even so, they've spend $50 million on that bugger

Beltre actually had a damn good year last year. Everyone here knew that he wouldnt repeat his contract year. Sexson's contract is up after this season, they need to groom Clement to play 1B so he can replace Sexson this year I think. As said in the series recap, he cant use the slow starter excuse anymore.

Sexson needs to sent down to the lower end of the lineup. That is the only way I can see lighting a fire under his ass.

Sexson hit two round trippers tonight and has four on the year. Sexson is hitting sixth and is now at .241.

Sexson nealry had his third of the game which would have put them ahead but Torii Hunter robbed him.
