The Brewers will acquire Ray Durham from the Giants for Steve Hammond and Darren Ford, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
That's pretty unimpressive. Durham could have been had for nothing at the start of the season if any team was willing to pick up his contract, and it's not like he's a better bet now than he was then. The Giants must be picking up some salary in order to get two prospects for him.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that left-hander Steve Hammond is in the deal the Brewers have worked out with the Giants.
That means it's for more than just Ray Durham. It appears that it could be a two-for-two, with the Brewers picking up Durham and lefty Jack Taschner for Hammond and outfielder Darren Ford. Hammond is clearly a more valuable property than Ford. He lacks great stuff, but he could come in hands as a fifth starter or reliever.

Looks like the Giants are definitely not playing for this year after the terrible start to the second half. The Giants are playing the Brewers right now so this makes the trade easier on both teams. Hammond is a 26 yr old left-handed starter who has a career minor league ERA of 3.55. He is currently not doing so well in AAA with an ERA over 7 but does possess a nice K/BB ratio. Darren Ford is a 22 yr old who can run like the wind. He has 202 stolen bases in four seasons in A ball. He has really struggled at high A ball so this isn't promising.
I'm not too happy with the trade but glad Durham built up some trade value so we could get at least something in return. The Giants got a lot weaker at second base offensively and the bullpen takes a hit. Not good signs going forward especially with Velez soon to get more playing time
