Dear Baseball Gods:

In watching the Gnats @ Dogs today, it still amazes me that the Bochy left the Pads for the Gnats. I can't help but wonder why. I mean he hasn't done jack crap since he went to SF and on the side of the Pads what has Bud done? Yeah, we won the division (barely, and on an umps call) last year, but BFD, he was riding the coat tails of the Bochy era!!!! Nothing makes sense any more.

Bud didn't have much to work with this year, and what he did have was either getting injured and/or underperforming.

Bochy was a sub .500 manager when he left, so technically he didn't do shit while here either......FWIW

Three sheets to the wind

To understand this phrase we need to enter the arcane world of nautical terminology. Sailors' language is, unsurprisingly, all at sea and many supposed derivations have to go by the board. Don't be taken aback to hear that sheets aren't sails, as landlubbers might expect, but ropes (or occasionally, chains). These are fixed to the lower corners of sails, to hold them in place. If three sheets are loose and blowing about in the wind then the sails will flap and the boat will lurch about like a drunken sailor.
