OK I've posted this on a couple other sites, but figured I'd try to get some Padre baseball talk here again.......

I was thinking about how this could possibly play out, taking into consideration what I'm hearing on the radio from SA and KT.........and what I'm coming up with is this.......Venable is the final blow for Kouzmanoff getting dealt, whether you think this good or bad........

KT and SA both have said that they like Gerut in CF and think he's earned the job, Headley is considered a better overall 3bag than Kouz and everyone was trying to figure out a way to work this out. Venable doesn't have a great arm, and it's more geared for LF.........SO.........This is what I think now happens:

-Kouz gets dealt for a SP or SS
-Headley is moved to 3rd
-Venable is moved to LF
-Gerut remains in CF
-Giles option is picked up OR they offer an extension for 2 years, hoping he can bridge the gap until Kulbacki is ready

If Kouz yields a SS, then Greene's days are very #'d, if Kouz yields a SP, then they stick with Greene and keep LRod as a fallback option who could also start at 2nd next year.

Thoughts ?

It'd depend on the return we'd get for Kouz.

I wouldn't trade Kouz just for the sake of trading him, but if the return is good (be it the SS or a SP) then sure, I'm cool with it.

I think we might be able to package up Kouz and sent him to the O's who need a 3bag for Jeremy Guthrie.......the question to me becomes who do you send with him.......I'd say something like Kouz/LeBlanc might get it done....

Now they move Headley back to third

2008 Giants > Padres

Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.

Not late......it's just now time.......we didn't have another LFer prior to this......now our farm is starting to see kids maturing and Venable or Huffman can be the guy to play the spot......this allows for Kouz to be moved and Headley to take over......really not difficult

There was also the matter of Kouz still being on the team.

What did LTR want? Them to bench one of their better hitters just because Headley was a 3rd baseman?

Wasn't he the one arguing that they should have brought up Headley from the get-go so that they can have both Kouz and Headley in the lineup?

I know I was arguing that Headley should have started in LF to begin the season......right out of spring......and Gerut should have been our CFer from the word go......

I think LTR was saying that Headley should be playing 3rd, while Kouz should be the one moved to LF........if that is what he was saying it was a totally wrong way to think for those two guys......The only mistake the Pads made was not starting Headley out of spring....

Oh yeah, now that you mention it I think he was saying that at the beginning of the season as well. (moving Kouz to LF)

Our OF next year could/should be.......
Venable LF
Gerut CF
Giles RF

That's a very good fielding OF, that covers a ton of ground, and has a chance to be pretty productive at the plate.

3b Headley
SS Greene ( unless by some miracle a team values him and we can deal him )
2b LRod (with EGon as the utility IFer)
C Hundley (with a veteran backing him up like Ausmus or something)
1b Gon

I think Kouz in a package for Guthrie (if realistic) would be a boon for this team's rotation until the kids like Latos (maybe Strasburg ) are finally up.

I would be very interested in seeing them sign Furcal if he proves healthy and if so, moving Greene is some package deal and getting him outta here. Insert Furcal into this lineup and that along with the kids and one more real arm and it really should be a decent team.

why not Venable in center and Gerut in right?

seeing as they're gonna cut costs, Giles may not return next year.. and from the very few that I got to see of Venable, I think he's more than capable of playing CF in Petco. IMO he has more range than Gerut
