Maddux is what he is and the same could be said about his stuff, but he is still producing. He is on pace for 200 innings still and while hittable to some degree, he makes up for it with his well known command. I can't envision the price being too high and given what he'll bring from the back of the rotation in 5 or 6 innings, it would help any team... let alone a team who could use something reliable in the stretch run with the injury to Penny.

Of course, my recollection of this season is a bit skewed due to not being able to watch many games.

Well, 6 innings per start at 33 starts per year is 198 IP. So if he has a few where he goes longer, he's right at 200.

His numbers this year are actually similar to his 2003 and 2004 where he won 16 games each season. Maddux is a good addition for a team that is looking to make the playoffs. He can definitely help this team with his quality pitching and his veteran leadership/experience.

Padres shouldn't expect much for a one month rental. Dodgers needed him with Penny's future up in the air so the move was worth it. Expect a low A ball or AA ball player.

Dodgers acquired RHP Greg Maddux for two players to be named later or cash considerations from the San Diego Padres. Maddux was 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts with the Dodgers in the second half of 2006. So far this year, he's 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA for the Padres, but that comes with a 5.75 ERA outside of Petco.

Expect the cash instead of players. No need to give up two players for one month but who knows with Colletti.
