Jeff Suppan, RHP (7-7, 4.70) Brewers (68-51)
@
Cha Seung Baek, RHP (4-6, 5.06) Padres (46-72)
Scouting Report:
Brewers: Suppan has worked seven innings to win each of his last two starts after allowing eight runs on 11 hits in a July 27 loss to the Astros at Miller Park. In the wins, he allowed four runs on 12 hits in 14 innings with three walks, none in his most recent outing in Cincinnati. Suppan retired the final nine men he faced in that game and could have escaped damage except for Jay Bruce, who hit an RBI groundout in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third. Suppan is 4-3 in his career against the Padres despite a 6.23 ERA in nine starts.
Padres: Baek kept the Padres atop the Mets through 6 1/3 innings on Wednesday, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five. Other than a hit batsman, Baek's offspeed pitches found their spots and, on other occasions, sneakily ducked under Mets bats. The outing, which lasted 99 pitches, consisted of 65 strikes. He'll now face the Brewers, a team he hasn't faced in his career.

CC Sabathia, LHP (12-8, 3.11) Brewers (68-51)
@
Josh Banks, RHP (3-4, 3.77) Padres (46-72)
Scouting Report:
Brewers: In his last outing, Sabathia (6-0 in seven starts since arriving in Milwaukee) tossed his fourth complete game -- and second shutout -- with the Brewers, allowing just five hits, while striking out nine and walking just one. The big lefty was economical, needing only 103 pitches, and even added to the offensive output with a single of his own in the second inning. Still unbeaten in his seven starts with the Brewers, Sabathia has posted a 1.58 ERA since his move to the National League. His four complete games top the NL, and the southpaw is currently in the midst of a career-best nine-game winning streak, dating to June 10.
Padres: Banks entered the sixth inning Thursday but couldn't register an out, leaving the game with two runs surrendered in five innings -- the third a sacrifice fly off reliever Clay Meredith that allowed an inherited runner to score from third. He set a goal of allowing no more than three runs with Johan Santana as his rival on the mound -- he accomplished that -- but it still wasn't enough to get him a win after allowing nine hits on 89 pitches. He has not faced the Brewers this season.

Ben Sheets, RHP (11-5, 2.95) Brewers (68-51)
@
Jake Peavy, RHP (8-8, 2.68) Padres (46-72)
Scouting Report:
Brewers: In his last start, Sheets was spectacular, as he set down batters in order in four of his first five innings, working his fourth complete game of the season. The righty allowed just five hits, striking out six and walking none. Sheets matched CC Sabathia's five-hit shutout from the previous night nearly pitch-for-pitch in tying his teammate atop the National League leaderboard for complete games with his fourth of the year.
Padres: Peavy endured a 54-minute rain delay in his last start and actually pitched better after the game against the Rockies on Aug. 8 resumed at Coors Field. Peavy, who allowed a two-run home run in the second inning before just before the rain started to fall, allowed just one run the rest of the way in taking a loss. Walks were Peavy's downfall during his six-inning stint where he allowed three runs on a season-high five walks.
