I'm not denying this part, but it's also easy to say that after the fact.
Towers did **** up in completing the multitudes of plans before he had to settle on the Edmonds gamble.
From reports and articles I read I'm assuming this was the order of plans and why they failed. But, of course, I could be wrong since I'm not in Towers' office while he's operating.
Plan A: Resign Mike Cameron. That failed
Plan B: Fukudome. The Cubs offered a hell of a lot more money
Plan C: Milton. They probably didn't think he was worth more than the 5 mil the Rangers offered because of his injury problems.
Plan D: Coco Crisp. The Rangers wanted too much in return.
Plan E: Trade a fringe prospect for Edmonds and hope he recovers from his injury.
