How would I have fixed it....
Prior to the deadline, you do anything you can to get the deal done for Mark Loretta and Mike Lamb. I talked to Brian McTaggart of the Houston Chronicle and he told me the day after that the deal was very close but he didn't know where it broke down.
I would have gotten a deal done for Jermaine Dye, the White Sox were asking for Linebrink and Greene, I would have been half tempted, and I know PFF is going to hate me for saying it, to make that deal. Geoff Blum showed us last season he can do just fine at the plate and defensively at short.
I would have kept Hensley with the team instead of sending him down for bullpen help. That bullpen help, was Mike Thompson, who costs us 3-4 runs every time he goes out there.
Good enough?

Here's another Tiger update, he just made an improbable putt from off the green, he's got a 5 shot lead. IT IS OVER!!

For all we know the deal could've broken down with Houston asking for Antonelli, Headley, and Cedric Hunter in return.
I'm just pulling that out of my ass, but the point is, if we don't know why the deal didn't go down we can't throw accusations at management for "not wanting to win in the playoffs"
Just to be clear here, I agree with a lot of your base statements, but it's that insinuation towards management that's brought on the animosity seen in the responses.
And I have a bit of a pet peeve with said insinuation being thrown about nilly willy when people don't know the full story...sometimes even by their own admission.

Horrible deal and it wouldn't have accomplished anything more than what Bradley has given us before the small injury and Hairston/Mackowiak since.
And it's unfair to play the "well Bradley got injured" card because who's to say Dye wouldn't have either?

Same here, I don't understand that particular move myself.

None of the above.
I was posting that on a "just in case" basis because that was a response I could have seen made.
Whether or not you would want to reply with that I didn't know, but I made it to give a pre-strike response just in case.

If we'd given up Greene/Linebrink for Dye.........Petco would have burned down, KT would have lost his job.........and Chicago as a whole would have died laughing at us......
Worst idea maybe ever

Dye is a stud, getting him in the middle of the line up would have been a good idea. Then in the offseason, acquire another bat to go with Gonzo and Dye. Makes senses but not cents for Moores, go figure.

Could have been worded better though, you worded that as I had said something about Bradley being injured.
One more thing, why are we so afraid to even think about trading Khalil Greene, just out of curiousity?

You're right, the wording was a bit off.
My opinion on that Dye trade has nothing to do with "being afraid to trade Khalil Greene" and everything to do with not wanting to make a horrible trade.

How would that have been a horrible trade? I agree it would have been if the Padres had no intention of re-signing him, but if they thought they could, I would have made the deal.
I just think, if the "right deal" comes around and it involves Khalil Greene, if it makes the team that much better, I pull the trigger.

Considering how Dye has fared this year you really think giving up Khalil Greene for him would have been a good deal?
Especially when you take into consideration how much "cheaper" it was for us to get Milton Bradley, who's essentially given us the same thing you'd hope Dye would?

Wasn't Dye on the DL or going on the DL at the time this supposed trade would have gone down ? Bradley for far less, was a much better deal for this team, this year.......

Dye is hitting the hell out of the ball right now and has a great track record. He would have been the right move to make, but the Pads just didnt step up to the plate. Damn!@ Again
