The one thing the Padres can NOT afford to do is start off slow this season, because if the Dodgers put distance between themselves and the Padres, I think the Dodgers have the talent to stay in front. I think the Padres need to stay right with them step for step.
FRESNO STATE SCHEDULE
v. Sacramento State W 24-3 (1-0)
@ (25) Texas A&M L 47-45 3 OT's (1-1)
@ Oregon L 54-21 (1-2)
v. Louisiana Tech W 17-6 (2-2, 1-0)
@ Nevada W 49-41 (3-2, 2-0)
@ Idaho W 37-24 (4-2, 3-0)
v. San Jose State W 30-0 (5-2, 4-0)
v. Boise State L 34-21 (5-3, 4-1)
v. Utah State W 38-27 (6-3, 5-1)
@ Hawaii L 37-30 (6-4, 5-2)
v. Kansas State W 45-29 (7-4, 5-2)
@ New Mexico State

I can't recall the projected started outfield for the foogin dodgers, but they don't strike fear in me.
I'm not much inta predictin, but I'm sure the Pads'll do well-wasn't so many seasons ago when a .500 season would be cause for celebration.
Go Pads!!

Luis Gonzalez, Juan Pierre and Andre Ethier is the projected Dodgers OF. The Dodgers offense has no real source of power outside of Kent but this has speed and will score runs. Plus with that pitching staff, they won't have to score 5 runs a game to win.

They have Matt Kemp waiting in the wings if Gonzo falters. And when Derek Lowe slumps they will need to score 5 runs.

Let's not kid ourselves, the Dodgers should be able to stay towards the top of the division most of the year. The only way I could see them faltering is if they the injury bug bites either Jason Schmidt or Derek Lowe.
FRESNO STATE SCHEDULE

@ (25) Texas A&M L 47-45 3 OT's (1-1)

v. San Jose State W 30-0 (5-2, 4-0)
v. Boise State L 34-21 (5-3, 4-1)

They will be snapping on our heals for most of the year. we just need to stay in form and not to lose "easy" games

A healthy Nomar (lol) is another source of power for the Dodgers....and I think they will have a pesky offense...nothing that really scares anyone, but they are going to have some speed, some power, some youth and some vets....it's a strange mix IMO, but one that could be nasty to teams with suspect offense......like US
Bring back the Chicken !!
Get'r done KT...........
2008 Predictions
-Prior ( if he proves healthy ) signs a multi-year extension in Sept. - not healthy, no contract for you
-Gerut makes team, and has a great season
-Edmonds was a total BUST

Nomar is a good offensive player, no question about it, but I think he's going to spend a lot of time on the DL.

I'm interested to see if the Dodgers ever move Brad Penny. I think he's still good enough to at least be the #5 guy in their rotation instead of Brett Tomko.

At least be the #5 guy? Brad Penny? The only Dodgers' starting pitcher to have pitched in last year's All-Star Game is, according to you, at best a #5 guy?!

Penny fell apart after the ASG IIRC
He's still their #2 or 3, though, depending on how you rank Lowe.
