He didn't play very much last year.
But, when he was in there he was atrocious.

I know....they are claiming that was due to him coming off injury....I think that's a load of BS...which is why IMO his leash should be very very short

His career .OPS thus far in the bigs sits at a pretty .775ish, and that's without ever receiving consistent playing time. With those stats in mind, I'd say Padres fans have underated Ben Johnson rather than overatng him, considering nobody I've talked to ahs seemed to care that we traded him.
By looking at those stats, it would appear that we actually traded what most opposing teams (outsiders) would consider a sure thing up and comer ready to start in a position that we A) need, and B) need power from, and c) Need a RH bat.
I'm assuming Alderson and Towers know something that me and other GMs don't know (considering other GMs have wanted him for some time now), because on paper this looks like a very silly move.

.775 isn't that great. It's not bad, but it's not great.
And lack of playing time is a knock on good percentage stats, not something that makes it seem better.

.775 for a 24 year old is great in my books.
Lack of playing time makes stats such as Bard's easier to dismiss, for they have already had chances before and failed or never earned the right of chance in the first place. BJ's situation is from default: a manager named Bochy.

Bard was in the same situation as BJ his entire career. Lack of playing time.
You're contradicting yourself here.

I'm not happy with the BJ trade...especially considering we don't have a power hitting corner OFer in the farm system ready to take over out there...and it happens to be our biggest hole....I would MUCH rather have seen BJ out there and the franchise say it's his job to lose, than trade him and go with Sledge....
Sledge IMO is a 30 old unproven liability in the OF......at least BJ still has a ton up upside and possess all 5 tools.....Sledge does not
As for Bard....HWood is right....he's never been given a fulltime shot, so this is that chance for him....I think he'll be a damn good backstop for us.....

I still think BJ has been overrated by Padres fans. But, I base this off watching him and nothing real solid, so I don't blame people for being upbeat on him.
I'd still rather have him over Sledge, simply because he has more upside and the odds of him panning out are higher than that of Sledge.

There's still talk that the Padres could make a deal with Milwaukee to bring over Geoff Jenkins. Nothing solid yet, but a rumor that is still floating around.

There are OFers in AAA that are just as proven as Kouzmanoff.
2008 Giants > Padres
Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.

Kozmanoff is not proven, but he's a highly touted minor leaguer.
While that's not the same as a proven commodity, it's quite different than some random minor leaguer that you hope to get lucky with.
I hope I understood your point correctly with that response.
