http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/6619.jpg
.338/.433/.634; 39 HR, 107 RBI, 34 2B; 14 SB
Albert Pujols isn’t just the best first baseman in baseball. When Barry Bonds is on the shelf, Pujols is the best player in baseball. He’s truly the complete package as a player. He hits for a very high average...

The Cream of the Crop: Top Five Catcher Edition
http://strike3forums.com/images/Article_images/Misc/cotc-catcher.jpg
1. Jason Varitek
http://espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/5921.jpg
.302/.380/.543; 20 HR, 58 RBI, 25 2B; 5 PB, .227 CS%
Varitek runs away with the catcher position, and it’s not even close. He’s the only dominating hitter that plays at catcher, and while he’s average at best defensively, he puts up numbers you’d expect out...

The Long Term Look: 2004's Carlos Beltran and other guys who are kinda centerfielders
We all know who was a free agent coming into this year, and where they signed. We also now how these players are doing as of now. But so what? What can we expect in the future from these men on which so much is riding? Vinny Castilla is hitting now, but what can we reasonably expect him to do through his contract? Carlos Beltran? Carl Pavano? I will analyze these men, and their reasonable futures...

How Best to Fail
Runs are created by offensive production and this for the most part refers to what players do when they don’t get out. But to stop an investigation of offense there is to ignore what in my mind are a few of the great things about baseball:
1) just how many ways there are for a batter to fail,
2) the different effects this can have on the game, and
3) the fact that all teams have to fail a...

Dirty Secret
Yes it's true. I’ve had trouble with the On-base Plus Slugging (OPS) statistic for a few years, but it’s not what you’re thinking. I don’t think a player's batting average or RBI tell the whole story of offense, I’m not attached to any stat (traditional or otherwise), and I don’t think a scout’s horse sense is always better than good analysis. These are the common assumptions about me of...

Is Another NL Central Championship in the Cards?

Status quo. More of the same.
Nothing describes the way the NL Central division has gone so far this year more than that.

A Lighter Note
The Following Comments are Made In Jest. The Stats are Real, Names Have Been Changed to Protect The Innocent
An idea jumped into my head the other day while I was watching a Reds game, and it went something like: “Damn those are some ugly uniforms. Maybe they could win some games if they got some self-respect and stopped wearing those ridiculous vests!” Hmmm…. I thought, hmmm indeed. A...
