AL Cy Young: Is it really even a question who is the leading candidate? -
09-07-2005, 11:09 AM
Well actually, yes it is. Who is the leading candidate anyways? Do you give it to Bartolo Colon, who is atop the WIN METHOD standings for pitchers? What about Cliff Lee or one of the White Sox guys? Or should you give it to last year's winner Santana by default? So many questions, so few answers!

My vote was naturally biased, but um, if I was really voting, then I'd flip a coin between Cancer and Santana.
Second, I'd slap NYGF because he just seems to have it coming for him. I swear man you wouldn't last 5 minutes in California before you got your ass kicked. So I'd be doing him a service too. -hot corner gurl

Rivera and Wickman should be taken off the list.
2008 Giants > Padres
Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.

Buehrle, Colon, and Santana, and possibly others are good choices. If I had to choose RIGHT NOW, I'll take Buehrle simply for a slightly better ERA and a few more IP, but Buehrle's defense really has let him down (or he put them in a position to, or he was worse after errors) at times and I wouldn't be shocked if I switch to Johan when the season is over.
Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

Considering Mariano Rivera isn't even the best reliever in the AL, I don't know how two people can say he is the best pitcher...
Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

Cliff Lee and Colon are strong contenders now... but I don't think there is a clear cut leader....
Rivera and Johnson need to be taken off this list, along with Wickman

I dont like anyone on that list. Id take Rich Harden despite the missed starts. Hes so much more important to his team and His numbers are very respectable enough in a open race like his.

Shrek is Kevin Mench, and I hope he's not pitching. But maybe he'd do better than Eric Milton at this point.
