Biggest collapse=Mets 2007  Giants > Padres  Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.70 career ERA, but has won just 29 of his 95 starts. |

Mets catching the Cubs in 1969. It was about the same scenario as the Mets this year. IMO, the only difference is that the pitching was much better because there were not as many teams. Which makes it harder, because there were not as many weak teams.

I forgot to add my vote for dishonorable mention: the choke job by Brooklyn that culminated with "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!"
