The New York Post quoted a baseball executive as calling the Pirates' asking price as "exorbitant."

General manager Neal Huntington, following standard policy, declined to comment on that report or any other.

"I do not feel the need to address others' concerns with our process to date," Huntington said last night.

But one team official was adamant in describing the Pirates' requests as "reasonable," particularly when considering that the primary pieces on the block -- outfielder Xavier Nady and reliever Damaso Marte...
I could see Marte being overpriced because it just takes one stupid gm to pay it for the strategy to work, plus EVERYONE needs lefty pitching. Marte also has had a good year with the track record of being a great setup guy and close in a pinch.

Nady and Bay on the other hand the Pirates need to be careful to not have what happen to them like Cincy with Arroyo. There were reports that the Phillies wanted Arroyo, they end up sending guys to Oakland for Joe Blanton. There are plenty of other outfielders on the market that the Pirates could get stuck holding the bag.
