Phillies Give Lidge Mondo Extension

Considering this is Brad Lidge, 3 years and $37.5 mil is quite large. However, Lidge has been very good this year. He is a perfect 19-19 this year, meaning he has yet to blow a save. He also has a 0.77 ERA and a 47-15 K/BB ratio.

He's been very good this year, but that's a lot of money for a guy who has shown that one blown save can send him into a huge spiral. He's pitched for the Phillies for 3 months now, and they're already locking him up long term....little bit of a risky move if you ask me.

Good move as they have nothing in the farm system at closer and Lidge has been lights out!! Three years isn;t that long.

Agreed that it's not that long, and it could be a terrific deal, but this is also a guy who can fall apart at any time.

I'm glad Lidge is able to pitch well. Never thought he would come back after a devastating season with Houston. I agree with ljshorty89 it is a risky move because it's pretty early but if Lidge is going to keep it up for a long time, then it'll be worth $37 mil.

Its risky I agree because he does have surgically repaired knees and has been a mental case but now he is in a different environment and thriving. He's only 31 so its not like the horrid Tom Gordon deal.

Agreed. I mean, if he pitches like this for the next 3 years, it's a bargain. The question is if he will do so.
