The Oakland Athletics are engaged in serious negotiations with the Los Angeles Dodgers about pitcher Joe Blanton, a 26-year-old right-hander who would help fill in the injury-ravaged L.A. rotation if the deal is completed. One person familiar with the talks doesn't think a deal will be struck, but the teams are currently talking.

I also read the Mets are interested...I think the Dodgers system is better and would net us more, but Beane loves his Milledge...though the Mets supposedly don't want to deal him. I doubt anything happens now...they probably have a better chance of moving Big Joe in the off-season.

The Dodgers made a strong, aggressive push to acquire right-hander Joe Blanton from the A's on Monday, but fell short of completing a trade, according to major-league sources. The talks could revive, sources said, but only if the Dodgers initiate another effort prior to the non-waiver deadline at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Such an attempt is unlikely; the Dodgers, after offering the A's three top minor leaguers — two position players and one pitcher — are not willing to go further, one source said.

Apparently, the A's want a major league ready starter...something the Dodgers don't have. Ellbert had surgery and is done for the year and Kershaw is only in A ball.
