hopefully, I always have...just at the last minutes.
2002: after graduating undergrad I didn't get a teaching position until less than 2 weeks before school started
2003: they eliminated elementary health in the school system I was teaching in...I didn't get the graduate assistantship until classes had already started after Labor Day.
2005: after grad school I didn't get a teaching position until after school had already started. It was a private school and I wasn't even the 1st choice. I was the 2nd choice out of 2 people. The 1st person took the job and then quit. I ended up being a 1 year fill-in..."it wasn't the right fit for the population (behavior disordered)...you'd be better suited for public schools." They had no problem with how I taught or anything...just didn't think it was the right fit. I wasn't the only one either...it was the kind of job you'd do for a couple years to get experience because they pay you significantly less...I was already looking for another job anyway, but it would have been nice to have something to fall back on.
so as you can see 3 out of the last 4 years I've had to spend the summer searching and found something at the last minute...it's very frustrating...I just want to work and have some security...I may have to leave teaching to get that. The problem with public schools is that I have a masters and because of the union, they have to pay you more contractually. Therefore, they like to hire people fresh out of undergrad so they can pay them less. [/RANT]
