A friend of mine knows a member of the Red Sox staff. This individual told me, and I honestly don't know how much truth there is to this, that if Manny Ramirez had gone to the Marlins, they would have turned him around to the Yankees for Melky Cabrera and 2 other specs.
Honestly, I don't know how much I would have liked this deal, because Melky is homegrown and is a young, impact player who will be a part of this team for a long time. I have always been against trading him.
Anyone hear anything about this? I really don't know how much truth there is to this, but the person who told me is pretty trustworthy, so it may just be true.

I doubt that kind of scenario is even possible. Ramirez has 10-5 rights, and the union likely would file grievance if a team tried to subvert those rights intentionally.

Also, the Yankees don't need a left fielder/DH.
Wouldn't Manny still be able to refuse to go to NY in the subsequent trade?
That's an honest question, I'm not sure how it works.
