...second baseman Robinson Cano.

10-19, 4 RBI, 5 runs, 4 XBH, 2 HRs since the break. Looks like he may be in for another red-hot second half.

Interesting point, and I completely agree. Sometimes the biggest additions a team can make are the ones from within, whether a return from injury, or breaking out of a long slump. Cano, and even Carlos Delgado across town(who's now at .261, 18 HR, 57 RBI) can both be huge "pickups" for their teams in the second half.

Too bad they lost Posada and Matsui for the year possibly.

This is no surprise for me. I expected and expect Cano to dominate the second half.

I think at this point it is better to have Posada out for the year, he needs shoulder surgery and will take 4-6 months to heal so if they wait until after the season it goes into 2009 and he clearly isn't the same player playing w/ the injury so I think it's in the best interests of the player and team long term.

At Posada's age, I think his days behind the plate are pretty much over. He needs to get healthy and see if he can still swing a bat.
Matsui's injury is a big loss to the Yanks as well. He provides stability in the lineup.

That Posada deal looks better and better with each passing day.

I mean, as nice as it is for Cano to come alive, it may be tough(er) for the Yankee offense with the potential loss of both Posada and Matsui. Not only do you lose two of your better hitters, but you lose a key lefty in Matsui, and a key leader AND switch hitter in Posada. Tough breaks.

Damon does come back at some point and does Wang. Yankees need more though to reach October. They need to find a catcher! Miguel Olivo is being shopped but the Yankees can do better than that.
