Nowhere to Hide -
07-04-2007, 08:19 PM
We need to win every Series to win the Wildcard safely.
That may win us the division too, depending on whether or not the Sox slump.
We should be 45-33, but with the worst luck in the majors (Tied with CIN and SF at -6), we are 11 games out in 2nd place.
I'll post the series, predicted outcome, and then update it with the real outcome.
LAA (3) (2/3) (2/3)
TB (4) (3/4) (3/4)
TOR (4) (2/4) (3/4) [+1]
TB (3) (3/3) (2/3)
KC (4) (3/4) (3/4)
BAL (4) (2/4) (2/4)
CWS (3) (1/3) (2/3) [+1]
KC (3) (2/3) (1/1)
TOR (3) (1/3)
CLE (3) (1/3)
BAL (3) (2/3)
DET (4) (3/4)
LAA (3) (1/3)
DET (4) (2/4)
BOS (3) (2/3)
TB (3) (3/3)
SEA (3) (3/3)
KC (3) (2/3)
TOR (3) (2/3)
BOS (3) (1/3)
BAL (3) (2/3)
TOR (4) (2/4)
TB (3) (3/3)
BAL (3) (2/3)
Conservative, winning most of our series.
Sadly, puts us at 89 wins and 73 losses, definetly not enough for the division, but maybe wildcard level...except that hasn't been enough for the WildCard since 1996...the year this dynasty started.

Yep, we're gonna have to go on a long sustained run to make the playoffs this year...the AL is pretty stacked and the Wild Card race is going to be very interesting. Right now all we can worry about as winning series and not what the other teams are doing though.

That's what I said.
We seriously need to win at least 95 games, and that would mean going 56-25...21 games over .500.

I just don't see the Yankees going 56-25 the rest of the way. There pitching is not going to hold up enough to do so. They have gotten themselves around .500 ball to this point in the season because they have a few outstanding ballplayers on there club like A-Rod, Jeter and a few more. But the remainder of the team is just plain mediocre at best. With teams like Redsox, Tigers, Indians, Angels, A's, Mariners the Yankees would have to do some serious winning and those teams would have to fall apart. Those teams are not going to fall apart because they are quality teams.

Not to be a punk, I am just seeing where you guys are at with this. Is it time to think of the Yankees as sellers?

I totally agree with you redsrbetter, but do the Yankees remember how to sell off players? They are so used to over paying for them.

It would be a monumental move, but it may happen. It is something for Steinbrenner and Cashman to consider for sure.

Maybe they can do some wheeling and dealing and get someone useful before the trading deadline.

They really aren't done yet.
If we string together a solid streak before the deadline, I would much rather stay pat.
What we would sell will help us next year, and as such, shouldn't be sold.
(55-25) is projeted necessity.

^ 30 games over .500 the remainder of the season. They can barely string together 3 wins in a row with that pitching staff. I say stick with Cano, Jeter, A-Rod, Posada, Abreau, Matsui, Wang, and start to build around them.

"That pitching staff" is injured and playing inconsistent.
Clemens, Wang, Pettite, Mussina, Hughes is actually a sick rotation.
You cannot expect to win every game. Yankee fans have this pipe dream of this so called "run," which I keep doubting. Too much luck is involved, and we are not having good luck.
2.2 wins for every loss.
Not as hard as reeling off 12 in a roll.
