    Twins traded Luis Castillo to the Mets today for two prospects, catcher Drew Butera and outfielder Dustin Martin.
Castillo is hitting .304 but had just nine steals in 13 attempts and only 29 walks in 349 at-bats. He is making $5.75 million and is eligible for free agency after the World Series.  |

Just another stupid move by Ryan and Polad. There better be a big time DH on the way! This is the main reason I think we traded Castillo. Or we will do NOTHING else and use the money on Hunter?

Who are Drew Butera and Dustin Martin? Should have gotten more than just two of unproven prospects. Another low day for the Minnesota pro sports.

Dustin Martin (OF) is the reigning player of the week in the Florida State League, and Drew Butera (C) is Sal Butera's (former Twin) son. Neither is a household name at this time, but both could develop into solid players.

Yah, I'm not totally angry about this, but it does not seem like anything more than a money move. Save a bit of money on Castillo who becomes a FA at the end of the season. he's already making 5m/year right now and he's having a pretty good season, so I'd venture to guess rather than look like asses for not paying him next year, they take their lumps now.
Not horrible, not shocking yet not helpful (yet) either. |
