Brewers claimed third baseman Casey McGehee off waivers Wednesday from the Cubs. McGehee, who turned 26 earlier this month, hit .296/.345/.429 in 497 at-bats for Triple-A Iowa and then went 4-for-24 with eight strikeouts and no walks for the Cubs in September. The Brewers want more options at third base, but McGehee is nothing more than an adequate Triple-A player and he doesn't figure to get much better. He shouldn't be a candidate to make the team out of spring training.
