MLB Marichal '66 vs. Greinke '09

Which pitcher fared better during their first ten games?

    Marichal '66- 9-0, 0.59 ERA, 60 K's, 8 BBs, 8 CG, 4 SHO (1 being 14 innings long)

    Greinke '09- 8-1, 0.84 ERA, 81 K's, 12 BBs, 5 CG, 2 SHO

Its just amazing to compare Greinke to Marichal and its just amazing to see how much better pitcher were in those days of finishing what they started. Both men have pitched wonderfully but I am going with Marichal. I just hope Greinke can continue on throughout the season and finish strong to surpass Marichal's 25-6 record that year with a 2.23 ERA. Maybe even Greinke can do something Marichal never did and win a Cy Young Award.

They were in two very vastly different era's.

What about Pedro Martinez in 2000.

    8-2, 1.05 ERA, 104 Ks, 15 BB, 3 CG, 2 SHO
2003 Hybrid World Champion (115-47 reg season, 11-4 playoffs)

TBL: Anaheim Angels 2006-present (238-244 regular season, 1 division title)
MSL: St Louis Cardinals 2013-present (2734-2936 regular season, 5 division titles, 2 championships)
    TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)

Marichal put up the better numbers, but Greinke has it tougher because he doesn't have the benefit of getting an easy out from the 9-hole of batting lineups.

When Greinke throws a 14 inning shutout then you might have something.

The only number that Greinke has better than Marichal is the K's. Marichal beats him (soundly) in every other category. Marichal it is.

    Agreed here as well.

Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.
