ESPN - Hall of Fame Classic to debut in 2009

Next June's game at Doubleday Field will feature four Hall of Famers and more than 20 other retired major leaguers, although the decision on who will play will not be made until later, Hall of Fame spokesman Craig Muder said.

I would love to go to one of these games and love the idea of it but only four HOF players? I think we can do better than that. Sandberg, Ozzie, Ripken, Gwynn, Boggs, Eckersley, Molitor and even Nolan Ryan can still turn a few heads. I hope MLB overdoes this and can outdo the Yankees AllStar game tribute.

If I lived closer to where the game is being played, I'd be there every year. I've had the pleasure of meeting many HOF'ers, and they are all very gracious and willing to give of themselves. I like this idea.

I saw Bob Gibson on HBO not too long ago and I think he could still throw some gas. If MLB marketed this right, got all HOFers there and more than four playing and got really strong former players then I think this game would be great. Maddux and Mussina might be retiring and would be perfect to start this game.
