ESPN - Angels' Hunter says MLB's homer dip result of steroid testing - MLB

An average of 2.01 home runs per game were hit this year, down from 2.04 in 2007. The average hadn't dropped that low since 15 years ago, when it stood at 1.78, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The homer high of 2.34 was set in 2000, and the average stood at 2.14 in 2003, the last season before drug testing with penalties began.

Miguel Cabrera topped the American League with 37 homers, the fewest for any league champion since Fred McGriff hit 35 for San Diego to win the 1992 NL title. It was the lowest total for an AL champ since McGriff had 36 for Toronto in 1989.
Looks like things are getting back to normal or at least in the AL they are. Interesting read!

2008 Giants > Padres

Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.

Well is anyone surprised? No one wants to risk there careers now that MLB is cracking down on the problem.

It's also the first year without Barry Bonds.

Baseball is better off without the needle sticking slug.

Well of course... People aren't swinging for the fences like they used to. You hit to many homers and everyone starts asking you when you started taking the roids...
It doesn't help that the big hitters like Ortiz were hurt for most the year...

Right, I'm pretty sure you were all over McGwire's jock in 98 and wouldn't have said the same shit about him like you do about Bonds.

How else do you explain 73 home runs?

I assume it being the first year without Bonds is based on Bonds not playing this year.

Right, as if his home run totals for the 2005, 2006, and 2007 seasons contributed a lot to those seasons' totals.

Counting down to: The end of Andruw Jones's contract with the Dodgers:
