This Cubs-Mets game was very good. The Cubs took the lead 6-5 in the 7th inning, but the Mets came back to tie it 6-6 in the bottom of the 8th, but then Jose Reyes ended the inning by leaving the bases loaded. Huge opportunity wasted.
Later in the bottom of the 9th, Dan Murphy tripled to lead off, David Wright then took three straight balls but ended up striking out. The Cubs then intentionally walk Carlos Delgado to set up the double play, but Howry promptly goes 2-0 in the count to Beltran and they end up intentionally walking him as well. So now the bases are loaded, but the Cubs are able to get Ryan Church to ground into the fielder's choice and get Ramon Castro to strike out. Again, the Mets leave the bases loaded without scoring anyone. Unreal.
We go to extra innings. And Luis Ayala promptly gives up three runs, two on an Aramis Ramirez homerun.
Meanwhile, Milwaukee and Sabathia beat up on the Pirates, so this means that we're all tied up in the wild card with 4 games to go! It's deja vu all over again.

Carlos Beltran gives the Mets the walk-off win in the 9th inning!
The Mets were down 6-4 after the top of the 7th, but scored one in the bottom of the 7th, two more in the 8th inning to tie it up at 6-6, then again in the 9th.
The strange part is that the Cubs didn't even use Carlos Marmol in the 8th when they usually would have. I guess Chicago didn't really care about this game. After all, their lineup was kind of makeshift, with Felix Pie, Micah Hoffpauir, Mike Fontenot, Casey "Willis" McGehee, and Koyie Hill.

I don't understand why Manuel didn't use Maine instead of Ayala for what turned out to be his 5th inning in 4 days, no days off. But oh well. We lost last night. We won tonight. Just gotta keep it up.

The Mets are down to their final out of the season!
Counting down to: The end of Andruw Jones's contract with the Dodgers:
n = [log (($17 million amount deferred x .02754 interest daily periodic rate)/30 days in cycle) - log ($5 million base x .02514 interest nominal periodic rate/162 games prorated in cycle)]/log (1+i)

Or take a dive in the standings like this year's Padres.
