Curt Schilling, Hall of Famer? -
08-09-2008, 06:04 PM
This is a tough one. He's had a lot of post season success, and he's had some dominant seasons, however his career stats aren't completely convincing. (Not that they aren't good...but they'd have to be good for it to even be a discussion.)
For discussion's sake, here's his career line
216-146, 3,116 Ks, 3.46 career ERA.
Here's his Baseball-Reference page if you want to look at more stats.

Very very close, I'd say no.

Nope. I already feel the Hall of Fame is way watered down, although not as bad with pitchers that don't belong as it is with position players that don't belong. But I don't think he should make it even in comparison to those that are already in. Well, that is if you take away the ones the Veteran's Committee voted in. (They are a total joke!!!!)

Absolutely. I hate when people say No to pitchers merely because "another guy has better numbers, and he's not in the Hall." I may hate Schilling, but he's as big a big-game pitcher as I've ever seen.

You have to look at the postseason #'s for Schilling as thats what he was best at. Just like Beckett will be known for his postseason success (if he ever turns it around in the regular season), so is Curt Schilling. I think he makes it in with the current HOF standards, I agree its weak but you can't hold that against him. He's in but barely...

I would say he falls short regardless of the post-season numbers. It's not the post-season HoF.

Schilling is a diarrhea mouth and a George Bush whore, but he gets my vote for the HOF, based on his career ERA and strikeout total. He was stuck on some awful Phillies teams that cost him a chance at 300 wins. He went 15-14 despite a 3.25 ERA one year.
Counting down to: The end of Andruw Jones's contract with the Dodgers:
n = [log (($17 million amount deferred x .02754 interest daily periodic rate)/30 days in cycle) - log ($5 million base x .02514 interest nominal periodic rate/162 games prorated in cycle)]/log (1+i)

If you have to ask whether a person is a HOFer or not, then he probably isn't.
So no.

Oy, this one is so close for me...I mean, I hate the guy, but I've already put that beside me for this discussion.
His K's and ERA are excellent. His win total stinks. I would say...ugh, I guess he's in. As much as his win total is just way too low, that stat is a bit biased, you need to be on a good team all of the time. And he's got the postseason success (which DOES matter, Prov. It can't be the ONLY thing, but it's not with him, it's just what makes him stand out, which is what the Hall is all about). Plus, he's got a ring with 2 different teams, so that tells me that he's more than a one-hit wonder. So I say yes.

| League | Team | Div. Titles | Ovr. Record | Season | Playoffs |
|---|
| TBSL | Tampa Bay Rays | 0 | 0-0 | 0-0, '10 | 0-0 | | TPSL | Colorado Rockies | 0 | 309-271 (.533) | 54-39, '14 | 2-3 | | SBSL | Hyrule Triforce | 1 | 282-241 (.539) | 0-0, '12 | 25-12 (2 WS) |
