Young SP Studs? No.

Perez is a very good pitcher, and Maine is solid.

Neither is young enough for me to not count their mediocre performances this year...

I can't believe I'm agreeing with a Yankee Fan but you hit it right on the nose

For the record, Zito out dueled Santana in the playoffs.

Yes, epic moment for me.

nyjunc, I don't think I ever said that I'd take the Mets staff over the Sox staff. If I did, then it certainly was not what I was trying to say. However, I don't think you and CJ are giving the Mets pitchers their due.

Perez and Maine are average, look at their stats compared to the league average...they are slightly better. They will be above average pitchers...but studs...no way

It depends on the definition of stud. Both have shown that they have the TALENT to be VERY good. Obviously neither of us can guarantee whether they will or won't reach their maximum potential. Like I said, I don't really think you can predict a guy's future unless you've seen him pitch consistently for an extended period of time.

I think the Mets have a good staff w/ Santana, Maine, perez & Pelfrey though maine is hurting. You do have to remember they play in a pitchers park and against weaker NL lineups so it inflates their #s a bit. They have been very good but I wouldn't call maine or Perez young studs, Santana falls into that category but the other guys are solid pitchers. Perez could be but for whatever reason he cannot maintain long term consistency.

If they are 2,3,4 int the rotation they are studs compared to others that get these spots. As a true #1 that will have a long productive career that will face the top talent from other teams, and dominate opponents when they step up to bat, no.

Ahh crap I hit the wrong button, and now there's a vote for just Maine, I may love the state, but not the pitcher in response to the question. My bad.
