We Have A New Record!!

With two shutout innings against the Rangers on Sunday, Brad Ziegler set the major league record for consecutive scoreless innings to begin a career with 27. Ziegler struck out three and gave up two singles between the pair of innings. The record was previously held by George McCullen in 1907. Ziegler obviously isn't this good, but expecting him to be one of the better setup men in the American League is far from outlandish. The right-hander has a 1.98 ERA between the majors and minors over the last two seasons, and he hasn't given up a homer in 128 1/3 innings since switching to a sidearm delivery.

This guy went from being cut after just six innings from the Phillies organization in 2004 to setting this new record! He was also hit by line drives twice in his career and was told not to pitch ever again!!! Two fractured skulls later he is setting this record! What a great story and congrats to him.

He keeps it up and the Diamondbacks may just trade six players to get him.

Woohoo there was this big celebration today at the stadium when the record was broken. It was great to see Ziggy so happy...probably never imagined himself to be in that situation ever. Hopefully he can keep it up, because he's one of the few bright spots on the A's right now.
