Injury Stupidest Baseball Injuries, both on-field and off-field (mostly off)

These are per Morisato's blog on Fox Sports.com

    Some of my favorites:

Vince Coleman - missed the '85 WS due to being run over by Busch Stadium's tarp machine.

Ken Griffey, Jr. - missed a game while with Seattle after pinching a testicle with his cup.

Rickey Henderson - missed several games because he got frostbite because he fell asleep on an ice bag.

Glenallen Hill - went on the DL after suffering cuts caused by crashing through a glass table while dreaming he was being attacked by spiders.

Marty Cordova - missed time after burning his face after spending too much time in a tanning bed.

Kevin Mitchell - missed time due to an injury suffered at the hands of a microwave donut.

Jose Cardenal - couldn't answer the bell for a game because he couldn't blink.

Nolan Ryan - missed a start because he was bitten on the hand by a coyote (another reason why Robin Ventura's decision to charge him was a bad one).

Dwight Gooden - got taken out by Vince Coleman and a golf cart, missed a start.

Steve Sparks - separated his shoulder while trying to tear a phone book in half.

Manager Roger Craig cut his hand while trying to undo a bra strap.

John Smoltz (Atlanta Braves) – Once burned his chest while ironing a shirt…while he was still wearing it.
    Who does this???? LOL seriously!

Jake Peavy (San Diego Padres) – Fractured a rib after he jumped into a celebratory pile after the Padres clinched the division.
And then went on to have a poor performance in his playoff start proving that, despite the broken rib, he's obviously no good in the clutch.

Adam Eaton (San Diego Padres) – Stabbed himself in the stomach while tearing off the wrapper on a DVD.
This fails to mention that he was doing so with a knife.

Although, to be fair, I use a knife to tear off the plastic on DVDs all the time. Especially those annoying stickers on the cases.

But I slice away from me, I assume Eaton sliced towards himself.

Shortstop: Jason Bartlett (Minnesota Twins): Tore the nail off his left pinky…while sliding his hand under the television in his room at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Detroit.
    This one sounds familiar.

Similar to the Peavy incident, Denny Hocking from the Twins got his hand stepped on in a celebratory pile when they beat Oakland in the DS back in 2000 (I think it was 2000)

Marty Cordova's is clutch. Also, Junior getting one of his testicles pinched by his cup is pretty good too.

BTW, I hope that players stayed away from Vince Coleman.

    Good point

Also: Clint Barmes fell down the stairs while carrying venison after a hunt and dislocated his shoulder. He might have torn his rotator cuff too, can't remember exactly. Either way, it cut short what was turning into a breakout year for him.

Funny thing about this: I went to a Padres-Rockies game over the summer, and before the game while waiting for someone to come over and sign my baseball, i was chatting with this woman who follows the Rockies around and knows all the players like family. She said they're all really into hunting, especially Todd Helton, so that's why he was carrying venison. Why they are hunting during the season, however, I have no idea. She said the team has a raffle every year where fans can win a hunting trip with Helton. Just one of those random, interesting stories i thought i'd share with the world.

Jake Peavy and Roy Oswalt hunt together every off season.

not if he's cutting himself on her bra strap. can you imagine that? you're like making out and all and you're taking off her bra, and "OW!" and you bleed everywhere. lol it must have been a pretty big cut for it to be out in the mainstream media.

    That's hysterical! (Craig)

The first name I thought of here was Barmes, just bizarre
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.
