Zito trade rumors, Dodgers looking -
03-20-2006, 05:36 AM
• The Yankees, Mets and Dodgers have expressed interest in Oakland left-hander Barry Zito, but if they want the Athletics to listen seriously, the teams are going to have to overpay. The Athletics have reason to believe they can win the division, and while Zito can be a free agent after the season, he also is the key to a developing rotation.

down near the bottom.
I doubt this happens, though. The A's have a contendable team, so I doubt they'd give up on him.
It'd be good for the Dodgers, and bad for my Padres.

The Dodgers won't get Zito. They might have had a shot if DePodesta was still the GM because of his connections with Beane.
Counting down to: The end of Andruw Jones's contract with the Dodgers:
n = [log (($17 million amount deferred x .02754 interest daily periodic rate)/30 days in cycle) - log ($5 million base x .02514 interest nominal periodic rate/162 games prorated in cycle)]/log (1+i)

I'd love to see Zito stay after this year, but if he does leave I hope he goes to the NL...there's been some "rumors" that the Angels might make a run at him and I'll snap if he signs with them.

i'm really hoping the Padres sign him
Peavy, Young, Zito, Carillo (assuming he brings his minor league success to the majors) would be a pretty damn good rotation.

About Zito to the Angels, that reeks of Johnny Damon...except that the A's didn't buy Zito like the Sox did to Damon.
Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

What the hell would the Dodgers give the A's for Zito? Half the team and the #1 Pick in the draft for the next 50 years? Bean is not stupid! Not a chance!!!

they do have some awesome talent in the minors, so it is plausible.

Zito won't get traded unless the A's fall out of the race before the trade deadline...which I would be if they did. The Dodgers farm system has some really good specs.

Zito won't be moved and most likely won't resign with the A's.
"They asked me if I wanted the ball in Game 6, and I said yes. I'll always say yes. That's what I did with Jack McKeon. I told him, 'Let me see how I feel tomorrow.' I went out, did a long toss, came in and said, 'I'll pitch, I want it, I want to do it.' And it ended up working out." - Josh Beckett

Here's the one thing that hasn't been brought up about Zito, and I'm surprised it hasn't. The only reason these rumors have been flying is because the A's know they're not going to re-sign him. They want to get something in return for Zito, whether it's prospects, a bat or a top reliever.

the rumors are flying because people need something to write about...just like Tejada and Giambi...most likely Beane will let Zito walk and take the 1st round pick and the sandwich pick just like he's done in the past. The A's are trying to win this year (and in the future)...they're not going to be able to get a player to help them this year that would offset the loss of Zito right now.
