if the A's are in the race there's is no way they move Zito, bottom line.
All talk, at least from me, of the possibility of him being moved is under the premise of should they be out of the race by the trade deadline.

I think the idea the A's have to deal with is get something while you can, since he's walking at the end of the year.......but we'll just have to see.......Hopefully Alderson's relationship with Beane will come into play and Zito can come home to San Diego......
Bring back the Chicken !!

Reefer, we brought this back just for you because we know how badly you want Zito in a Padre uniform.
Oh, I'd like to thank Juan Pierre for robbing Barry Steroids....thank you.

do people selectively read posts here or what?
If Zito walks the A's do not get nothing!!! They will get a 1st round pick and a sandwich pick, which is just as good as a 1st rounder. 1st round picks are just as good as "top prospects" as both need some luck to actually succeed if they make it to the major leage level. They've done this before when they let Damon, Foulke, Giambi, and Tejada go. Tell me, please, why do you think Beane won't do that again? The A's are in 1st place in spite of the injuries to Harden, Loaiza, Bradley, and Witasick...why the hell would a 1st place team trade one of their best pitchers?

I, for one, doubt Zito ever wears a Padres uniform via trade this year.
That said, if Oakland's out of the race by the trade deadline there's a good chance Zito's traded.
And yes, i'm aware of the fact Oakland gets draft picks if he walks via free agency.

I know you are, but others keep ignoring that fact and the history of what Beane has done in similar situations in the past.

The only other thing I want to add on this topic is that Beane has always done things his way whether people agree with it or not. So while people may think he has to do this or that because that's what they think or have read, it doesn't matter...Beane's gonna do what's best for the team regardless of what other people may think.

The Loaiza signing was a real head-scratcher, though. It's not typical for Beane to give that kind of money to a middling veteran pitcher. Instead he finds those pitchers off the bargain bin a la Gil Heredia and Cory Lidle.
Counting down to: The end of Andruw Jones's contract with the Dodgers:
n = [log (($17 million amount deferred x .02754 interest daily periodic rate)/30 days in cycle) - log ($5 million base x .02514 interest nominal periodic rate/162 games prorated in cycle)]/log (1+i)
