Going into tonights game, KROD career ERA in the postseason was 2.76, with 5 W, 2 SV and 39 Ks in 29 IP.

Its pretty decent considering.

No one ever said that K-Rod is the greatest, because he's not. This thread is about applauding the single-season save record, which he owns. If it comforts you to hear it, I'll say it: Mariano is the greatest.

2008 Giants > Padres

Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.

The argument all along from my end has been on the meaninglss ave stat. he has had a running thread most of the year applauding him for it then he finally faces some real pressure and he folds. Thankfully he got the job done last but was he really worthy of all that praise for such a meaningless record?

Hes been pretty solid in the postseason before this season. Especially in the year that the Angels won the World Series. So while he might have a rough patch, its kinda like Kyle Busch this season, Strong REGULAR SEASON, horrid POSTSEASON.

Meaningless stat! Every single manager in baseball would disagree!! Everyone knows how valuable the closer is!

He wasn't the closer in 2002 so while he was great he has never been great in October as a closer. As a closer his ERA is 4.85

Obviously a good closer is very valuable but that's not the issue. it's the save stat that is overrated and it's not even a debate among those who know the game. The perfect example is mariano has only led in saves 3 times during his career yet we all know he's been the best closer in the history of the game. Rodriguez was maybe the 4th or 5th best closer this year but he had 20 more saves than the 2nd place closer. The save stat is an incredibly overrated stat.

No Mariano isn't the best closer, he's one of the best closers, Trevor Hoffman is right next to Rivera.

What happens when you close out a game?? You get a save!! All that matters to a manager, a guy who knows the game.
