Angels released first baseman Shea Hillenbrand.
The Yankees obviously weren't as interested as some indicated they were. The Angels were hoping they'd at least succeed of in dumping most of Hillenbrand's salary in a trade. Since it didn't happen, they'll be on the hook for the rest of the $6.5 million he due, minus the prorated minimum once signs with another team (probably $150,000-$175,000, depending on how long it takes him to find a new home).
No doubt he will find a new home. The Braves might be interested as well as the Twins.

Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.
S3SL: Toronto Blue Jays' GM - still looking for a WS ring
SBSL: Detroit Tigers' GM - the new blood
TSSL: Boston Red Sox's GM - World Series Champs in 2009; contending in 2017
TPSL: Toronto Blue Jays' GM - WC race
The Braves might have interest in him with Thorman struggles and Salty not really a 1st baseman.
"For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home."
Yeah, but who is the Yankees alternative, Andy Phillips, Doug Mientiewicz, Miguel Cairo. They are not very good options. Shea is a slight upgrade to all of them IMO.
The Yankees and Twins are expected to show interest in Shea Hillenbrand, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
No team was willing to trade for Hillenbrand, even with the Angels willing to pick up most of his salary. He's a free agent now after clearing waivers today.
I thought he would be worth something at least.

I hope the Twins get him because they are the only team I mentioned along with Rosenthal No, Twins need him more as they have an actual shot at October.
