per rotoworld:

The Astros placed Raul Chavez on waivers, indicating that Eric Munson has made the team as a backup catcher.
Brad Ausmus will stay very busy behind the plate, but Munson should get enough work to contribute in two-catcher, NL-only leagues. He's hit .380/.418/.760 in 50 at-bats this spring, and though his batting average will decline at least 130 points in the regular season, he could be good for 8-10 homers. Mar. 31 - 2:57
With a good spring, I think he has earned this priviledge. Congratulations Munson!

I had no idea he could catch.

Second, I'd slap NYGF because he just seems to have it coming for him. I swear man you wouldn't last 5 minutes in California before you got your ass kicked. So I'd be doing him a service too. -hot corner gurl

Why'd they do that. I thought that Chavez was Oswalt's personal catcher.

Astros purchased the contract of catcher Eric Munson.
Munson making the Astros as a No. 2 catcher is something we certainly didn't see coming a month ago. Unfortunately, manager Phil Garner might be afraid to use him to pinch-hit while he's the lone option behind Brad Ausmus. Mike Lamb has a little experience catching, but he's just an emergency guy. You are right about that too DK. I had completely forgot about Chavez catching for Oz. Strange too because it sounds like Munson can't hit worth a lick either.
