HOUSTON -- In what will likely be the biggest no-brainer of the offseason, the Houston Astros extended the contract of manager Phil Garner by one year, through the 2007 season.
Since taking over as interim manager on July 14, 2004, the 56-year-old Garner has led the Astros to a 137-99 (.581) record, including an 89-73 record during the 2005 regular season.

Garner's two Astros clubs have reached heights not previously attained in franchise history. The 2005 club won the Houston franchise's first National League championship, becoming the first Astros team to play in the World Series. The Astros defeated St. Louis in the 2005 National League Championship Series and the Atlanta Braves in the 2005 National League Division Series.

The 2004 Houston team won the first postseason series in club history, also defeating the Braves in the 2004 NLDS. In each of the last two seasons, Houston has finished second in the National League Central Division and earned the NL's Wild Card berth.
Good move I think...

It is. He's done a great job down in Houston with that club. Like to see them repeat next year.
