Yeah, I've heard that rumor. If it does happen, look for the 'stros to sneak in to the playoffs, a'la last year.

He is the answer for the lack of Bagwell. He is the obvious answer and one that I will support. He does strike out a lot but he also hits a ton of homers.

The Reds want too much for him at this time but the Astros could get them to trade with one starter and two minor leaguers. If the Reds don't do something with him this year, they will get less next year when teams know they 'have" to do something before he walks.

I hope it happens for the Astros.

Not sure if the Reds would like to trade Dunn within the division (Don't know fore sure if they are dumping salary like the Pirates did in 2003), but anything can happen.

Who do the Astros have for Dunn? Any great prospects? These talks have been very loud lately. In fact they have been the loudest we have seen for the deadline with all the Reds bats in rumors. This one is getting crazy.

There is no gurantee Dunn will walk. And the Reds could get more for Dunn next year if he hits to his talent. I think Dunn's value is going to be pretty low to the traditional type GM's (considering what he will likely produce in power and OPS over his career.)

Most GM's would rather have him for next year's salary before offering him a bigger contract. If he becomes a free agent, the cost will skyrocket. That is why it makes sense this year.

you better hope he walks. He's going to cost too much money for what he really is worth.

Dunn would fit fantastically in Houston, with an OF of Berkman-Dunn-Lane, hooboy.

However, the Astros aren't exactly a mecca for prospects that the Reds would look for and do they really want to give up good major league talent for Dunn that OB seems to want?

Dunn seems like a loyal type to people he likes, so I think it'd be cheaper to keep Adam by extending then trying the FA market for his talents. How mant 40 HR/.400 OBP caliber guys become available every year. Carlos Beltran is making a LOT of money and he's very good, but not exactly Mr. Power. How often do you see a guy like him on the market? A team that appreciates him will get him on the FA market. In a trade, you have options.

As a Reds fan, if you were sure Dunn wasn't going to resign, you want talent you know instead of two draft picks.

He could be the most interesting deadline story in 2006.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

What did you do with our rookie of the year? Willie Taveras is gonna be great in center for years to come. He is batting .295 with 102 hits (about 40 have been infield hits).

Berkman would move to first (he has been there most of the season) and the outfield would be Dunn, Taveras, and Lane.

You answered your own question there it seems. . Dunn or Berkman at 1b, both work.

Or you use one of the OF as trade bait to get Dunn. Few options there.

The Reds want far too much for Dunn. They want Backe and Lane and want to be able to pick two players from the minor leagues.

I wouldn't do it. Backe has too much upside and Lane is just playing his first year. He seems to have a lot more that hasn't surfaced. As far as hand picking the minors...get real!

Because the thing is Ted, O'Brien doesn't really want to trade Dunn. He has said it several times and the simple fact is, after his big offseason spending has blown up in his face, he's gun shy. Trading Dunn could come back to bite anyone in the ass. How many 25 year old big sluggers will be on the market at the deadline? Dunn and that's about it. He's going to ask for a crazy amount to ensure that he doesn't come out looking like a fool for trading Adam Dunn.

A lot of people think it's a must that Dunn must go due to salary concerns. But we have two big salaries coming off the books (Jimenez at about 3 mil and Graves at about 6 mil.) Not to mention if they decide to let LaRue (and his 3 mil salary) go since he will likely want a nice chunk of change.

Backe and Lane aren't exactly Oswalt and Berkman, to say the least. A return for Dunn should include more than a 4th-5th starting pitcher and a 4th outfielder.
