HOUSTON -- Craig Biggio logged hit No. 2,800 in his first at-bat on Saturday night, singling in the opening frame to become the 43rd player to reach that particular plateau. Biggio needs 12 hits to catch George Sisler on the all-time hits list, but it's the magic number of 3,000 that the 19-year veteran has on his radar screen. Assuming Biggio finishes the season with around 165 hits -- his average over the last five seasons -- he should reach the 3,000-hit milestone in May of 2007.
This is another guy that has brought so much to this organization. Big time congratulations are extended to him for reaching this mark. Since I can remember, Biggio has defined the meaning of a scrappy player who plays the game very hard all the time. Keep hitting Biggio!

He needs to get to 3000 in order to go to Cooperstown.

You think so? That sounds about right to me. 200 more and I think he will get to that mark in a few years with ease as long as he stays healthy. I think he is one of the better 2B in my generation.

Nope, Sandberg was third try I believe. You might have a point. It's probably going to take Biggio 3 or 4 tries, but there's no question he should be in.

Yeah, that was my point. Sandberg was far better than Biggio ever was, but he still deserves to get in for sure. I bet he doesn't retire until he gets 3,000 though.
